Sustainable Safety

We are committed to a more sustainable path. Learn about the work we have accomplished thus far and the improvements we are actively pursuing.

Sustainability is a long-term commitment. One small step at a time, where every effort matters.

We deliver high quality, protective equipment to working people worldwide, ensuring your safety and promoting well-being, even beyond working hours.
Hence, safety and sustainability are truly embedded in our core.
Each sustainable endeavor we undertake holds immense importance. This is exemplified by our recent achievement of the 2023 EcoVadis Silver, Medal with EcoVadis Gold as a long-term goal.

People, product and planet

Our foundation for sustainable growth is built upon three core areas: people, product, and planet. Within each, we are committed to initiatives contributing to carefully selected areas within the UN Sustainability Development Goals. Let’s look at the first P as in People.

People

We uphold a systematic and proactive approach to workplace safety, involving risk observations, safety assessments, and swift action to prevent incidents and accidents. Our commitment extends to assisting our customers, with an internal focus on enhancing safety at Ejendals.

Since 2022, we have provided training on our code of conduct to our employees. Moreover, we mandate our direct product suppliers to comply with our business code of conduct. For our other partners, ethical standards are also outlined in the code of conduct, which clearly defines their responsibilities, including CSR concerns.

We encourage transparency and accountability, offering an open whistle-blower mechanism accessible to all.

Product

Ejendals is committed to producing robust, high-quality products with a sustainability focus, increasing our use of recycled or bio-based materials. Notably, the JALAS Green Line Safety Shoe Collection led the way by being certified by Ecolabel as far back as 2009.

We're active Leather Working Group members, championing responsible global leather manufacturing. Many of our shoes and gloves are made with leather from LGW certified tanneries, with the list of products steadily growing. At Ejendals we currently purchase 60% of the leather for our JALAS shoes from LWG-certified suppliers.

Ejendals continuously works to replace hazardous chemicals with safe alternatives in both production and products, following a comprehensive Restricted Substances List.

Several TEGERA gloves and JALAS socks are OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 compliant, ensuring these products are harmless to human health.

Our packaging is optimized too. Our new shoebox is FSC marked and features more recycled cardboard and efficient design, while packing materials are space-saving and clearly marked.

Cut-resistant gloves made with bio-based Dyneema fiber have been in our portfolio for some time. Now, we are excited to announce the addition of three more sustainable gloves, further aligning with our strategy to continuously increase our offering of more sustainable products.

Planet

Ejendals is dedicated to minimizing emissions across all aspects of our operations. However, it's important to acknowledge that in the PPE industry, certain challenges exist in areas beyond our full control, such as transportation and chemical emissions in manufacturing. We recognize that, just like other companies in our industry, we share the same struggle. To address these challenges, we collaborate closely with our partners to develop long-term solutions.

At our facilities in Leksand and Jokipii, we exclusively use 100% renewable electricity. In Jokipii, we take it a step further by generating energy through our self-owned solar panel system.

The majority of our shoes are produced in Jokipii, Finland, reducing emissions associated with transportation. On a global scale, we prioritize sea transport as our primary mode for inbound shipments. Collaborating with our transportation partners, we actively work to minimize CO2 emissions.

Our gloves, designed in Sweden and manufactured in Asia, are primarily shipped by sea to Sweden. Once they arrive here, all but the last kilometers of transportation are efficiently managed by railway

Furthermore, our company car policy emphasizes electric vehicles. Safety remains our top priority, and we also focus on extending product lifespans to minimize waste. Additionally, we strive to enhance the recyclability of our waste materials as part of our sustainability efforts.
